When day one feels like day one billion...

They never said working was easy, but it certainly is more fun than I remembered.

Work day one was a massive success. We built 10 8’x4’ gardens and began to fill seven of them with dirt. We scraped a bunch of houses and began to prime them, and we even got to hop on a roof for a few minutes. All in a day’s work for Team Awesome from Woodside.

I don’t want to get into too much detail about the goings on of the trip but I will tell you that we only used two band-aids today, only came in contact with fleas, lice and potentially poisonous vines, and had to get off the work site by 3 PM to avoid a massive thunderstorm that featured what Raul likes to call a “water spout”.

First off, Raul is, like yesterday, The Man.

Second, a waterspout is like a tornado, just over water. According to Raul, they always dissipate before hitting land.

…Then, to me, he added, “But with the weather we’ve been getting lately, you never know.”

So we’ve got that going for us.

And now that I have you all really concerned, please do not worry! As I said before, we only used two band-aids today, and I’m pretty sure only a few of us became sunburned.

One casualty of today was my beard, which got covered in pain chips while I was scraping. The only way to get them out was to shave, which is why I now look like I do in the video!

Other than that, fun times all around. Except for the storm, and Dan driving the pickup when the tire treads fell off. And then there was the time with the [REMOVED BY SUPREME LEADER DAN].

Darn. Guess you’ll have to hear about all of that later.

Tomorrow: More dirt, more gardens, but hopefully less facial hair removal.

Enjoy the Fu-Manchu, because I’m totally bringin’ it back.

UPDATE: Video is HERE (once it processes, which is taking far too long).

Glad to hear everyone is ALIVE and WELL! Could we parents at home see some other faces on the screen?? I like hearing the news, but I'd also love to see the happy, smiling faces of our loved ones, too. The blogging and videos are great--thanks for all your hard work. You are all in our prayers.
